New to Teaching Core Maths
The purpose of this programme is to support teachers, who are new to teaching Core Maths, in developing specialist knowledge for teaching Core Maths and to increase their confidence in teaching the course.
The programme has a primary focus on Core Maths subject knowledge and pedagogy and will be based on these six key themes which are common to all the Core Maths specifications:
- Using contextualised problem-solving
- Applying Fermi estimation and modelling
- Developing critical analysis
- Making sense of finance
- Using the pre-release materials
- Exploring statistics.
Technology and online teaching will be underlying themes throughout the programme.

A Level Modelling Work Group
- Are you looking for ways to develop modelling within your A Level mathematics curriculum in an engaging and practical way?
- Do you have students who lack any understanding of the basic concepts and often cannot convert ‘real life’ problems into maths that they can use to solve the problem?
- Have you considered or would you like to consider using simple practical experiments to enable students to “feel” mathematics?
- Do some of your students have alternative approaches to dealing with aspects of mathematics taught in other subjects for example, kinematics?
If you have answered “yes” to any of the above and would welcome the opportunity to be involved in a joint CODE/AMSP project which aims to address these questions and find solutions to help make mechanics and modelling more understandable for students, please contact Debbie Bland here.

There will be opportunities for sharing activities, resources and methods of teaching, as well as getting input from Ted Graham and A level Physics teachers on how they teach their ‘Mechanics’

Kinematics, projectiles, connected particles.
How different subjects approach mechanics particularly physicists.
