Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics - Secondary Non-Specialist Teachers

Are you teaching maths outside your own specialism? Or is someone in your maths department a non-maths specialist? This project is for you.

What is involved?

Designed to support non-specialist teachers teaching maths in a secondary school in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support students in maths in the classroom.

Who can take part?

This programme is for non-specialist teachers of maths in state-funded schools. Priority will be given to teachers who have not had any initial training in Maths and who will be teaching maths during 24/25 (or who are already teaching maths), however other applicants are welcome.

Benefits

Participants will:

    1. explore and increase their use of a range of pedagogic approaches consistent with teaching for mastery
    2. increase their confidence in planning for progression in maths
    3. improve their subject and curriculum knowledge of secondary maths with a particular emphasis on mathematical structures in key areas.

The Work Group is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme, so it is free to participating schools.
