Participant Information 

This Work Group is for teachers who are looking to deepen their pedagogical understanding around a locally selected theme. A level teachers and/or lecturers will work collaboratively to improve their practice.

Participants must be teaching a current A level Maths group. 

Success in A Level Mathematics is built upon a secure understanding of key GCSE topics, especially areas such as algebraic fractions, algebraic manipulation, the laws of indices, and mathematical problem solving. 

This workgroup will look at how to help students who have struggled with some of these core concepts, and investigate how we can improve their broader A Level skills.  Participants will consider effective teaching approaches that support deeper understanding and help raise student attainment; we will aim to help these students cope with the more challenging questions.

Building on the success of previous workgroups, there will be opportunities to collaborate, address common misconceptions, analyse student examination responses and develop teaching resources. We will also revisit and extend earlier work on variation and pre-teaching strategies, focusing on supporting middle-attaining students while providing appropriate challenge for higher-attaining learners.

Suitable for all A Level Mathematics teachers, including both new participants and those who have previously taken part and are committed to improving student outcomes at A Level.
