Our Hub Management Team

Our Hub is lead by the Leadership and Management (MHLM) team.

Our MHLM team is made up of teachers and other educationalists from across the CODE region. Together, they work to plan and deliver all CODE's Math Hub Projects to support schools and teachers to deliver the best Mathematics education they can.

Laura Clitheroe

Maths Hub Lead

I am in my third year as my role as CODE Maths Hub Lead, having previously taught in Primary schools in Plymouth for almost 20 years, mainly in Upper Key Stage 2. I was also Maths Lead for the majority of this time and Trust Subject Network Lead more recently. I am so proud to work with such an incredible team of people at CODE, both within the Maths Hub Leadership and Management team and the wider LLME Community; such highly skilled and committed teachers, dedicated to thinking about best practice in maths in the South West. I am passionate about closing the disadvantage gap present in the South West, equality of maths education and opportunities for all and ensuring that all schools know they can access support from CODE in lots of different ways. I enjoy working and collaborating with strategic partners such as CAPH, CASH, SWIFT, the Early Years Stronger Practice Hub and One Cornwall, as well as Local Authorities and trusts.

Maths Hub Lead

I have been actively involved with the Maths Hub programme for many years, including over six years as a Maths Hub Lead. Alongside this role, I am a primary headteacher, which gives me a unique perspective on the real-world impact of teaching for mastery approaches in the classroom. I see daily how these strategies deepen children’s understanding of mathematics and build their confidence as learners. I am a firm believer in the power of consistent and committed engagement with the Maths Hub and its professional development offer. The benefits for schools and teachers are clear—raising standards, strengthening subject knowledge, and fostering reflective practice. What I value most is the spirit of collaboration that underpins everything we do at CODE Maths Hub. Working together across our region, we create a vibrant community of educators who are passionate about improving maths education for all and across all phases.

Assistant Maths Hub Lead - Primary

I have been working with CODE Maths Hub since day 1. I joined one of the first Teaching for Mastery work groups as a participant and was inspired to develop TfM in my own classroom. In the following years, it had a huge impact on the way I taught and how confidently and successfully my pupils understood mathematical concepts. Since then, I became a Mastery Specialist before becoming Assistant Maths Hub Lead. I lead a range of work groups for the hub as well as supporting individual schools. Prior to this, I led maths across a MAT. I enjoy working with teachers and leaders, supporting them to continually reflect and develop in order to provide the best possible mathematics learning experience for pupils.

Assistant Maths Hub Lead - Primary

I first started working with the Maths Hub network about 8 years ago in my role as MAT Maths Lead. Prior to this I took part in Work Groups as a subject leader. I was excited to become part of a network that supports schools wherever they are in their maths school development, working with whatever their chosen resources are, helping to develop pedagogy in the classroom and support sustainable subject leadership. Now, as Assistant Maths Hub Lead I work across the Hub and lead the Early Years Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics Programme and a Teaching for Mastery Work Group, as well as offering more bespoke school development support to individual schools. I am particularly passionate about the Mastering Number programme for both KS1 and KS2, having been part of the team since it began.

Assistant Maths Hub Lead - Primary

I’m passionate about teaching and learning, and helping every child develop a love of mathematics. For almost ten years, I’ve been involved with the CODE Maths Hub—first as a participant, then as a work group lead, and now as Assistant Maths Hub Lead. With 20 years of teaching experience across the primary phase and having completed my NPQH and MEd, I currently lead mathematics in a large primary school, serve as a maths network lead across a trust, and facilitate NPQLPM and NPQLT programmes. In my role as deputy head, I am continually inspired by working alongside teachers in my school and across Cornwall to reflect on and refine practice and spark enthusiasm for the subject.

Assistant Maths Hub Lead - Secondary

I first got involved with CODE through my role at Budehaven Community School as a Mastery Advocate, and it opened my eyes to all the opportunities on offer. Since then, I have joined the Mastery Specialist team, and I lead a work group focused on continuity across Years 5 to 8. It has been extremely rewarding to collaborate with primary colleagues and to develop a deeper understanding of the learning that takes place prior to Year 7. I have been teaching for over 15 years and have experience writing educational resources, as well as consulting with a computing firm on their educational products. I am a bookworm and write regularly for Mathematics Teaching, the journal of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM), about mathematical conversations with children. I firmly believe that all learners can enjoy mathematics.

Assistant Maths Hub Lead - Post-16

I first joined the fledgling Cornwall and West Devon Maths Hub as the Post 16 Specialist in September 2014! The Hub as well as my role and various titles have changed from year to year but my enjoyment in thinking of ways to share my enthusiasm for mathematics with students and their teachers and lecturers has never altered. Having the opportunity of working with inspiring teachers who share my love of teaching and mathematics makes it an amazing job. My favourite past projects include organising a Maths and Yoga residential weekend in 2016, to helping run a practical mechanics workgroup, complete with apparatus, in 2021. In recent years it has been fantastic to increase the Post 16 team, as well as introducing Further Education Mastery Specialists to colleges in Code.

Joint Project Manager

I’ve worked across Education and Administration since leaving school back in the dark ages. I qualified as a Primary Teacher working across various educational settings (including time in Eritrea, Africa) but then like a lot of teachers, I moved away from education and then spent 15 years in administration in the Hospitality sector. I came to CODE in November 2023 as Joint Project Manager responsible for Engagement, Communication and Recruitment – I LOVE it, working back in Education has been like coming home and feeling like I’m helping to make a difference in some small way to the outcomes of children’s learning is really rewarding.

Our aim

The core purpose of the hub is to help schools and colleges lead improvement in mathematics education across the region. We seek to harness all the maths leadership and expertise within the area, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.
