Secondary Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics

What is a Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) Programme?

SKTM programmes focus on the development of Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics, for individual school-based teachers or practitioners. There are a range of programmes available and each one compliments our whole-school Work Groups perfectly.

SKTM - Secondary ECTs

This programme supports secondary early career teachers to develop specialist knowledge for teaching maths, complementing teaching for mastery approaches as exemplified in NCETM’s Essence of Mathematics Teaching for Mastery. Participants will be those identified as having recently started their teaching career; for this programme that means teachers in their second or third year of teaching.

Programme Dates 2025.26
UPDATED AND AMENDED DATES:

Session 1 - Tuesday 3rd February 2026 9am-3pm

Session 2 - Monday 30th March 2026 9am-3pm

Session 3 - Wednesday 25th March 2026 9am-3pm

All online sessions, join from anywhere in our region

SKTM - Secondary Teaching Assistants

Delivered online by one of our partner Hubs, this programme is for teaching assistants who work predominantly with students in the KS3 maths classroom or who lead intervention sessions with groups of students. Participants’ schools should already be engaged with a Teaching for Mastery Work Group, and this programme will complement this provision.

SKTM - Secondary Non-Specialists

This programme is provided for teachers of mathematics that did not undertake initial teacher training (ITT) in mathematics. The programme is designed to support both those teachers new to teaching maths and those that have more experience but still did not initially qualify as mathematics teachers.
