All state-funded special schools and colleges in England are eligible for support. Independent Special Schools with at least 50% of pupils in receipt of LA funding are also eligible to work with us.

CODE Maths Hubs offer a range of projects, including those specifically designed for special schools, to improve the teaching and support of mathematics for pupils with SEND. 

Special Schools Conference 2026

CODE and the other Southwest Maths Hubs are delighted to announce the date of their 'Annual Maths Conference for Special Schools' on Tuesday 6th October, 2026. This event is open to all teachers in special schools, specialist provisions and inclusion bases in mainstream schools.

Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics - Teaching Assistants in Special Schools

This programme is designed for teaching assistants who are supporting maths, and who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths. This programme is designed to improve the subject knowledge and pedagogical knowledge for all practitioners supporting the learning of maths. This may be particularly relevant for new TAs, or TAs who have not received maths-specific training.

Work Group Dates for 2026.27

The time committment for this Programme will be 4 days across the academic year and it will be delivered face to face, venue or venues to be comfirmed;

Regional Special Schools Teaching for Mastery Community

Collaborative support for teachers developing maths teaching in special school settings.  This community is open to teachers in special schools that are currently engaged in one of the Maths Hubs’ national programmes.

Participation is optional and free. Teachers do not need to commit additional time beyond the two twilight webinars, though they are encouraged to contribute to the dedicated online community.

The core purpose of the hub is to help schools and colleges lead improvement in mathematics education across the region. We seek to harness all the maths leadership and expertise within the area, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.
